I’ve finally worked my through the 9,000 photos I took while traveling in February to Singapore and Indonesia. Singapore is great for a few days to readjust your internal clock after the long trans-Pacific flight. Singapore is the cleanest city I’ve been to. Everything works, you can drink the water, and the metro makes it easy to get around. The heavy-handed laws make the city feel a bit bland. It definitely doesn’t have the same dynamic feeling that other Asian cities have, but for a few days it’s great. Oh, and the food is amazing. Street food that’s safe to eat, hawker stalls (food courts) are everywhere, and every restaurant is graded for cleanliness.
One of the new attractions that is impressively overdone in a way that only Asia can do is the Gardens by the Bay and the Super Trees. A collection of huge man-made structures that are covered by plants give a nice view of the city and are the center of a twice nightly light show that makes you feel like you’re on Pandora, the planet from the movie Avatar.
