A highlight of our recent trip was Mt Bromo, an active volcano on the eastern side of the island of Java, Indonesia. After nearly two weeks of big cities and relentless traffic jams, we hopped on the overnight train and headed to Mt Bromo. Staying in the town of Cemoro Lawang, literally on the edge of the Tengger caldera, gave us a perfect starting point to hike across the sea of sand towards the smoking Mt Bromo. Topping out at 7600′ made for perfect temps (especially after weathering the equatorial-steam-bath that is S.E. Asia).
